Most problems with a cleaning company show up after the booking, not before. The way to avoid them is to ask the right questions first. The answers tell you more about reliability than any advertisement does. Below are ten questions worth asking any cleaning company in the Johor Bahru area, with a note on what a good answer sounds like.
The 10 Questions
1. Are your cleaners in-house or subcontracted?
An in-house team is accountable to the company and tends to deliver consistent standards. A pool of subcontractors rotated job to job rarely does. A good answer is a clear one either way, with detail on how the people are trained.
2. How are your cleaners trained?
Look for a specific answer. A vague "they are experienced" says little. A clear answer describes a checklist and a structured onboarding. Our own team, for instance, is trained on a 60-point checklist and shadows a senior lead for two weeks before working unsupervised.
3. Will I get the same cleaner each visit?
For recurring bookings, continuity matters. A team that assigns a fixed primary cleaner by neighbourhood will give a more consistent result than one that sends whoever is free.
4. What exactly is included in the scope?
The scope should be specific, listed by room or task, including what is not included. "Standard clean" means different things to different companies, so the detail matters. Our service pages each set out the standard checklist and the optional add-ons.
5. What triggers an extra charge?
A good company can name its common add-ons clearly: inside oven, inside fridge, deep clean, mattress or sofa extraction. Vague "extras quoted at the time" answers lead to surprise invoices.
6. Do you bring your own equipment and supplies?
Most reputable companies include equipment and chemicals in the price. Confirm it, and for offices confirm who supplies consumables.
Ask us any question on this list over WhatsApp before you commit to anything. We would rather you book with confidence.
7. How do you handle a clean I am not happy with?
A reasonable answer is a walkthrough before payment, so issues are fixed on the spot. We treat a job as incomplete until you have walked through and confirmed you are satisfied. Be cautious of vague promises that have no clear procedure behind them.
8. Are you a registered business?
You should be able to confirm the registered entity you are contracting with, not just a brand name. For a Malaysian company that means a registration number.
9. Which areas do you cover?
A local company should be able to tell you immediately whether your neighbourhood is on its route. A company that covers everywhere often specialises in nowhere.
10. Can I get the quote and scope in writing?
Any reliable company will put the quote and scope in writing before the job. If a company resists doing so, treat that as a warning.
Three Answers That Are Red Flags
Some answers should end the conversation. "We will sort out the price after we see how long it takes" with no range at all. "We use different cleaners depending on availability" for a recurring booking where you asked for continuity. And any reluctance to put the scope and quote in writing.
